A snow storm neutralized our pre-X'mas party. That was disappointing.
New Year always enhances our "maturity" (a.k.a. age). That is disgusting.
Another chance, after the snow storm and the New Year, to party & celebrate a new beginning? Now that c…
Welcome to the Global Chinese community. Thank you and all our mutual friends for the quality comments and essential insights during the discussion last night. It was a good meeting. We were most impressed by your front-lawn and backyard analogy about iGlobalChinese.com. This vividly describes what we are building and how we should proceed. We will remain highly aware of the need for front-lawns that are well cared for and hopefully tastefully landscaped, for it does reflect on who we are. We shall do our best in the architecturing, the orchestration and will ultimately grow with those who will tour, build and then settle in this global town known as iGlobalChinese.com!
The backyard and bedrooms will always be respected as all private affairs should be. I personally believe that an inevitable tension will remain within all of us, between a natural intellectual's need to "show our true self" and yet "mindful of dirty laundries". There may be truth to some claims that the existence of personal privacy in the era of electronic communication is only a myth, but just as you are right that we should not contribute to erosion of scholastic standards, iGlobalChinese.com should not be perceived as promoting the slipping of Chinese tradition and values (especially when it comes to the raising of kids), among which a high regard for family privacy is one. Hence I agree that we DO need to distinguish ourself from Facebook/MySpace somewhat.
I would disgress, however, by also noting that this tension is neccessary by our very nature, probably no different from the reluctance to give up my calligraphy brush on my 30 year old diary for electronic input on my PC, or cutting back face-to-face meetings for Skype video conferencing. Homos sapien yearns to evolve, and in so doing must leave behind trails of where we have been and what we should rightfully reminesce.
Again my sincere welcome to the community and do not forget to accept my invitation to be my Friend (and I am sure there are others waiting to invite you too) -- you can do so easily by clicking on the third small icon on the top left corner ("view friend requests") and then follow the menu. Only by doing so will iGlobalChinese let you in my humble backyard.
