Potluck after New Year at Ko residence @ N. Andover

A snow storm neutralized our pre-X'mas party. That was disappointing. New Year always enhances our "maturity" (a.k.a. age). That is disgusting. Another chance, after the snow storm and the New Year, to party & celebrate a new beginning? Now that c…

Thanks Alex for sharing the Science article. I agree it should be of major concern to the entire Asian community. Nonetheless, I doubt that it will cause panic among Chinese, simply because most of us have probably become numb to reports about Chinese food, water and soil being tainted. Without discounting the importance of arsenic as a carcinogen, we have read reports about the contamination of Chinese water supply and food chain by poisons including heavy metals, aromatic compounds, and other unhealthy additives. The home town of my ancestors that had fish ponds and paddy fields enough to support hundreds of generations before, is no longer self sustaining because battery and sugar producing facilities have let their pollutants run amog. Bad for China, sad for mankind.

I think the article should be made public on this site.

Hi, Alex,

About the script warning msg on your "My Page", I have tried going to my own "My Page", your "My Page" and several other members' "My Page" and could not duplicate the problem.

That makes me guess that it might have to do specific settings on the PC or browser that you are using.

My suggestion is that there are several things to try:

1. I assume that you have done this already, but if you have not, try closing the browser, reboot the PC and see if the problem is still there.

2. Try and see if you get the same warning msg on another PC if you have access to another PC. This might yield useful information for me in determining the cause.

There is a third thing to try, but I think it would be better to see the results of trying the above two things first.

Feel free to let me know the results. I am more than happy to help in whatever way I can.

Talk to you later!

Hi, Alex,

Regarding the warning msg that you get regarding "a script did not respond", does it happen when you access the page at http://iglobalchinese.com? In other words, is it only at the "Main" page that you get the warning msg?

If it is on at the Main page, then I have an idea of what might be causing it.

If it it is on some other page, can you tell me which page it is?

Thanks!

Hi, Alex,

I got your questions. I am sorry because I was not sufficienly clear in the Discussion, and might have misled you.

If you have taken a video and have the video file in your PC and you want to share it with a selected group of friends, the only way to share it is to:

1. Create a Private Group
2. Invite the people with whom you want to share the video to that private group.
3. Upload the file in a private group.

You cannot "embed" it in the Comment or Discussion of a group.

How to upload a video file to a Group?

Upload to a Comment

In the "Comment" section of a group, there is a list of function icons:

"B" - bold
"I" - italics
.
.
.
the second to last icon is for "Add an Image"
the last icon is for "Upload a File"

If you click on the last icon, you will be given 2 options:

(1) "Upload a file": Specify a file on your PC to be uploaded.
(2) "Insert an existing file" (by specifying an url)

Use the first option. Do not use the second option.

Upload a file in a Discussion

If you start a discussion in the private group, the screen presented to you allow you enter "Discussion Title", "Post", "Tags", and "Attach Files".

You can use the "Attach Files" capability to upload your video file.

Can one divide "Friends" into groups of friends?

Unfortunately the answer is no. It would be a very nice feature to have, but not at the current time. Perhaps in the future.

--------------

The link "http://www.iglobalchinese.com/video/video/show?id=2020811%3AVideo%3A3130" that you have. Since it links to your video file that you used the "Add Video" feature and you have specified that only your friends can access it, even if you email it to someone he or she will not able to access it unless they are members of iGlobalChinese.com and are your "Friends" and are logged on.

Hopefully this clears it up. If there is any further question, do feel free to contact me. I will be more than happy to answer them. We can further clarify via comments here, or if needed we can talk by phone.

Have fun!

Hi, Alex,

I understand that you have a question about sharing videos within a private group. I have added a description of the methods to share a video file in a private group here as a discussion. If there is any further question, please feel free to let me or Bing Ho know. We would be happy to help in anyway we could.

BTW, Alex, can you relay this message to Josephine? Thanks:
Hi Josephine, I am sorry I had to send you this invitation to join through Alex, but I do not have your email address. Do you use email? Planning to join?

We discussed privacy issues last night and the posting of our kids photos on iGlobalChinese.com has irated Joyce quite a bit. I know this can be a major concern among moms. I probably should have asked all parents first before hand, and I hope I have not offended any parents (except Joyce) by trying to test-share some old pictures that I never had a chance to organize-->burnCD-->deliver to friends in the past years. I was hoping that confining the sharing to "friends only" on this privately owned website will allay some of the anxiety using internet for photo/video sharing. Going by how we edited the June-4 videos last year at your house, shall we form a censorship group by moms +/- dads to determine how we can share photos as friends and parents? Would love your inputs.

Also be assured that I will take down all the kid photos I posted before we go public. What I put up there was only temporary so that this inside group of first users can see it in action.

It's OK Alex, to leave the discussion tonite early. We'll continue to pay attention to privacy issues. It was a very helpful discussion tonite, and most concerns have been addressed by Arthur. As he summarizes well, this site is at least as secure and private as current methods of communication. Any time we use the internet, there is always a chance for privacy info to be exposed, and so we should all use due diligence in running any group, and due caution in participating. BTW, don't forget to accept my invitation to be a friend on the website. Otherwise you will not be able to see the stuff I share among friends. You can find my request by clicking on the third icon on the upper top corner "vie friend requests".
